
MARQUETTE, Mich. — The Northern Michigan University women's basketball program is set to open their home slate of competition with a pair of contests against Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rival, Saginaw Valley State, Jan. 16-17. Both games are set to tip off at 1 p.m. inside the PEIF and can be live-streamed via the NMU portal on stretchinternet.com.

The women are coming off an opening weekend sweep at GLIAC foe Parkside. NMU accounted for 144 points on the weekend, tallying 77 points in back-to-back games in Kenosha, led by Makaylee Kuhn's 56 over the two-game stretch.
The Wildcat women opened their season with a 77-74 victory on Saturday night before rallying from 18 points down entering the fourth quarter to post the 77-76 victory and complete the road sweep.
On Saturday night, the women went 50 percent from the field, and shot 41.7 percent from beyond the arc before following it up with a 42.9 percent average in Sunday's contest.

In 82 all-time meetings, the Wildcats boast a 53-29 record over the Cardinals including wins in their last seven meetings. Last season the women swept SVSU with a close 71-66 victory on the road to conclude the regular season series. The women also hosted the Cardinals on opening weekend of conference play in which they defeated the GLIAC rival 56-53.
